When selling on Walmart through M2E Multichannel Connect, it's essential to understand how tax data is managed. Walmart’s tax handling is marketplace-driven, and M2E ensures that tax information is interpreted correctly and passed to your store based on your specific tax settings. This guarantees accurate invoicing and helps you stay compliant with regional tax laws.
Basic tax handling #
M2E determines how to handle taxes in Walmart orders by taking into account:
- Tax details provided by Walmart with the order
- Tax configurations defined in your connected store
Walmart tax settings #
Walmart automatically calculates and applies sales tax at checkout based on the buyer’s location and applicable tax laws. The platform collects and remits this tax on behalf of the seller in most US states.
Because of this setup:
- Sellers usually do not need to manage tax rates manually on Walmart.
- M2E imports the tax values Walmart includes in the order data.
Store tax settings #
Each store platform (Shopify, WooCommerce, etc.) has its own approach to tax handling. M2E detects how your store is configured and adjusts Walmart order data accordingly.
Optional: Exclude Walmart tax data from store orders
Since Walmart handles all tax collection for US orders, you may prefer not to include those tax details in your store orders. Here’s how you can exclude tax details from Walmart orders in M2E Multichannel Connect:
- Go to your store account from the top menu.
- Navigate to Settings > Orders > Tax Collection.
- Enable the Exclude tax collected by US-based Marketplaces option.

How M2E sends tax data #
M2E ensures that the tax portion of Walmart orders is transmitted to your store correctly based on your tax configurations and what Walmart provides.
If your store calculates tax independently, M2E will send net prices and pass along the tax separately. However, if your store uses tax-inclusive pricing, M2E will send gross prices and include a tax breakdown when possible.
✅ When you choose to exclude tax information for US orders, the tax line will not be passed to your store.
