Selling on TikTok Shop in the US comes with unique advantages, but also a detailed fee structure that sellers must understand to stay profitable.

Referral Fee Rates for US Sellers #
In the U.S., TikTok Shop uses a unified referral fee model that combines both the marketplace commission and transaction processing into a single charge.
Starting October 31, 2024, TikTok Shop updated its referral fee structure for US sellers.
- Jewelry categories got a fee drop. Referral fees are reduced from 6% to 5% for:
- Diamond;
- Gold;
- Jade;
- Platinum, Carat Gold;
- Ruby, Sapphire & Emerald.
- All other categories - including fashion, electronics, beauty, and home - remain at 6%.
- Pre-Owned items still have a 5% fee (3% on the portion over $10K).
Refunds & Commission Deductions on TikTok Shop #
If a customer cancels or returns an item through the TikTok app (within the allowed return window), TikTok Shop will refund the referral fee to the seller, but not in full.
A Refund Administration Fee is deducted, which amounts to 20% of the original referral fee for each SKU involved.
Starting May 15, 2025, this fee is capped at $5 per SKU, even if 20% exceeds that value.
For example, if your referral fee is $10, you’ll get back $8, and TikTok keeps $2 as a processing fee.
If the 20% would total more than $5 - say, $6 - TikTok still only deducts $5.
Keep in mind:
- The fee is calculated per SKU, not per order.
- No fee is charged if the buyer cancels before the item ships under auto-cancel rules.
- Creator sample orders using “Buy now, refund later” are also exempt from this fee.
TikTok Shop pays sellers once the order is delivered and no return or refund is requested. Payouts are sent automatically after meeting the $1 threshold and settlement period. Full details are in the Seller Center.

Other Possible Costs #
While these are the mandatory platform charges, TikTok Shop sellers might incur additional optional expenses:
- Advertising & Promotion. Running ads or boosting listings within TikTok Shop to improve visibility.
- Affiliate commissions. Paying creators or influencers to promote your products via TikTok's affiliate program.
- TikTok Shop Capital (Loans). Some sellers may be eligible for TikTok’s financing offers, where repayments are deducted from sales.
