The Description Policy in M2E Multichannel Connect controls how your product information appears on eBay. You can define item titles, descriptions, and condition details for different product groups. With Advanced Description, you can design fully customized, dynamic templates for your eBay products.
In this guide, you’ll learn how to set up an Advanced Item Description to create more engaging and consistent eBay listings using product information from your Store or Catalog.
What is Advanced Description #
Advanced Description in M2E is a flexible way to design how your products appear on eBay. Instead of using plain text from your Store, you can build a custom HTML template that automatically fills in product details such as title, price, images, SKUs, etc. Each listing uses the same structure but displays unique information based on the product data in your Store or Catalog.
Advanced eBay HTML description helps you:
- Keep a consistent look and branding across all eBay listings.
- Save time by updating one template instead of editing each listing manually.
- Make your listings more professional-looking with dynamic, data-driven content.
Create a description template for eBay #
1) In M2E Multichannel Connect, go to the Settings page and select your eBay account.

2) Switch to the Policies tab and click Create New Policy > Description.

3) In the Product Description section, select Advanced Description.

4) Paste or design your HTML template in the editor.
To add dynamic product details, click the Insert variable dropdown.

A menu will appear with Common attributes, such as Title, Description, Price, SKU, Image, Gallery, etc. Choose the variable you want to insert – it will automatically appear in your template in the correct placeholder format.

You can also add other Store/Catalog attributes or metafields from the same dropdown list to include unique product data.
✅ If you want to include information in your eBay description that isn’t available in your Store, you can create custom attributes in M2E Catalog. For example, you might add fields like “eBay Subtitle,” “Shipping Info,” or “Compatibility Notes” and use them in your HTML template the same way you use Store attributes.
Add suggested products #
You can make your eBay descriptions more interactive by displaying related or neighboring items in the product description. This way, buyers viewing one listing can quickly navigate to other similar products from your store.
You can display up to 16 related products in your eBay item description. Here’s when you can apply this feature:
- You sell product variations as individual (Simple) listings. For example, if you list socks in blue, yellow, red, and black, each listing will highlight the other colors so buyers can see all available options.
- You sell multiple products from the same category, for example, tools, accessories, or parts, and you’ve listed them on eBay in bulk. Each listing will display nearby items from your catalog as suggestions.
ℹ️ The Suggested Products feature works for items that you’ve listed through M2E using Inventory mode or bulk listing. M2E will display related items based on the listing order – usually, the two products listed before and the two listed after your current item.
To set it up, click Insert variable in your eBay advanced item description editor. From the dropdown menu, select Suggested Products and the number of products you want to display. The variable will be added to your template automatically.

Preview the Advanced Description #
After finishing your template, click Preview to see exactly how your item description will appear on eBay. Use this view to double-check formatting, font styling, and that all variables display the correct data.

✅ Advanced users can also enhance their eBay description templates with Twig tags for conditional logic and formatting. Learn more in this guide.
Best practices for professional eBay description #
A well-structured eBay description helps your listings stand out, build buyer trust, and drive more conversions. When designing Advanced Descriptions in M2E Multichannel Connect, keep these tips in mind:
- Keep your HTML clean and mobile-friendly. Use simple, responsive layouts that display well on both desktop and mobile devices. Avoid heavy inline styling or overly complex tables.
- Preview before publishing. Always use the Preview option in the Description Policy editor to test how your layout and variables render on eBay before saving changes.
- Mix Store and M2E Catalog attributes. Combine data from both your Store and M2E Catalog for greater flexibility. For example, pull titles or images from your Store and use Catalog-specific fields like Brand or Material.
- Maintain consistent branding. Reuse your HTML templates across different Description Policies to keep a unified look and save time during updates.
- Use dynamic variables smartly. Don’t overload your template. Include only the data that adds real value for buyers, such as specifications, size charts, or cross-promoted items.
- Keep content compliant. Avoid scripts, external links, or promotional banners that violate eBay listing policies.
